opt out details
To receive a credit of refundable fees contact the University Bursar during the refund period
- Transportation Fees: Students who have opted out of the transportation fee can expect to see the credit before September 28th.
- If the transportation fee reversal has not occurred by this date, please contact the ID Center at idcenter@uic.edu.
- Student-to-Student & Sustainability Fees: To opt out of these two fees:
- Check the scheduled request period
- Please email bursarhelp@uillinois.edu to request a waiver form to receive a refund of these two fees. It must be completed and returned back to University Bursar via email between the dates of August 24 to September 12. In the subject line, please enter “UIC Fee Waiver Request”.
- Health Insurance Fee and Public Transportation Fee for International Students (Exception for Fall 2020 ONLY if TAing from abroad)

- Campus Care/ Health Insurance Fee: Students with comparable health insurance coverage, for example through a legal guardian or an employer, can waive out of the program by submitting the online Waiver Form before the Enrollment Period Deadline Date. This will waive their “Health Insurance Fee”. The “Health Service Fee” cannot be waived.
- Check the exact deadline in the catalog. (approx. September 12 for Fall, February 7 for Spring)
- Transportation Fees: Students who have opted out of the transportation fee can expect to see the credit before September 28th.

insurance details
The University of Illinois requires all students be covered by major medical health insurance therefore, provides students with the CampusCare Program Student Health Benefit Program. CampusCare currently qualifies for minimal essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act as a self-funded health benefit program. CampusCare is not a licensed insurance company. The CampusCare fee is automatically assessed along with other tuition and fees to the student account (E-Bill) once the student registers for courses. There is no enrollment form to complete.

There are many housing options in the city. Here are some suggestions on places to look:

i-Card details
The i-Card is the official identification card of the University for students, staff and faculty. It is important to obtain the i-Card and carry it with you at all times.
Complete information, including locations, is available from the i-Card Office.

immunization
Illinois state law requires proof of certain immunizations for students living in on-campus housing. The policy and contact information are available at the Office of Medical Immunization Records. It is important that you read this information carefully as registration for future terms is not allowed if you are not in compliance at that time.

refund details
- Students who officially withdraw from the University by the second Friday of classes (first Friday for an 8 week class) will receive a full refund of tuition and fees. View the refund schedule.
- After the online drop and add period, students who officially withdraw from the University (by dropping all classes) may receive a pro-rata refund based upon the official date of withdrawal. View the refund schedule.
- Assessed tuition, the service, and general fees are refunded on a pro-rata basis less $50 in a Campus Care Student Health Insurance Withdrawal Fee.

- If you are not enrolled in the optional payment plan, the first payment of Fall tuition and fees is due on September 28. View your bill and pay online.

U-Pass details
All full-time graduate students (9 credit hours) receive a U-Pass that provides unlimited rides on all CTA buses and trains during the semester. There is a fee for the pass. Participation in the U-Pass program is not optional if you meet the eligibility requirements. More information on the U-Pass and information on U-Pass distribution can be found on the ID Center website.

- Turn into Graduate College signed form for Credit/No Credit: end of 2nd week
- NOTE: Credit/No Credit registration counts toward registration minimum or maximum requirements
- Turn into Office of Registrar signed Audit form: end of 2nd week
- NOTE: Auditing a class does NOT count towards registration counts toward registration minimum or maximum requirements
- Fill out and submit online any petition for 0 hrs / Option B and/or extension of program: end of 2nd week

HS deadlines
For any questions, contact your DGS.
- State of the Art (SOA) is a requirement for MA linguistics students only. The final manuscript of the SOA is due on January 31st or the first Monday thereafter if the 31st falls on a weekend.
- QRP for linguistics students (PhD): The QRP advisor and student propose a working title and a 200-word description of the project, which is filed in the graduate students file with Rocío García (mexotic@uic.edu) by September 30th. The final manuscript the QRP is due the first Monday after Spring Break. The student’s QRP advisor and a second faculty member, chosen by the advisor, must read the paper and sign their approval on a Qualifying Paper Signature before the last day of classes of the Spring semester. In the event a student’s paper is deemed unsatisfactory, he or she will have one semester to revise and resubmit. Revised QRPs are due November 1.
- QRP for literature students (PhD): On the first Monday after Spring Break of the first academic year in the PhD program the student must propose a working title and a 200-word description of the project, which is filed in the graduate student’s file with Rocío García (mexotic@uic.edu). The final manuscript of the QRP is due the first day after Labor Day. In the event that the student’s paper is deemed unsatisfactory, he or she will have a second opportunity to revise the paper and resubmit the following January.
- Apply for Kouvel (if qualified) by April 1st
- Apply for El Saffar (if qualified) by March 1st
- MA students re: Comprehensive Exam: Notify DGS ccing Rocío García (mexotic@uic.edu) which areas you are testing in by the last week of January

- Submit to Rocio Garcia Committee Recommendation form for Prelim Exam or Thesis Defense along with any outside of UIC member at least one month prior to exam or defense date. No exceptions!
- In order to graduate officially in Fall term final / revised defended thesis must be submitted to the Graduate College approx. first in November. See Graduate Academic Calendar for current deadline. Will also be announced via graduate listserv.
- In order to graduate officially in Spring term final / revised defended thesis must be submitted to the Graduate College approx. third Friday in March. See Graduate Academic Calendar for current deadline. Will also be announced via graduate listserv.

proof of degree detail
Official transcripts for domestics & internationals (translations also for internationals) & proof of degree must arrive in Admissions in a sealed envelope by mail or in person from the student by the conclusion of Fall term. Electronic versions from university to university (for domestics) is also accepted.
