The Catholic Studies program will host an exciting lecture at the Institute for the Humanities on Nov. 6 at 4:00! Professor Kristy Nabhan-Warren will discuss her book "Meatpacking America: How Migration, Work, and Faith Unite and Divide the Heartland."

While the Midwest has often been portrayed as homogeneous in terms of its people and geography, the reality is that it is far more complicated…and interesting. Lifelong Midwesterner Professor Kristy Nabhan-Warren spent over seven years researching the history of migration, work, and religion in rural Iowa for her book Meatpacking America. What she discovered is a Midwest that is undergoing fascinating transformations in migration, work, and culture that have regional, national, and global implications. Kristy will share insights from her ethnographic research and tell us why she thinks what is happening in the Midwest is an important indicator for the future of the U.S.
