Undergraduate Students present at Association for Slavic, East European, & Eurasian Studies Annual Convention

Earlier this year 9 UIC students were selected to participate in the nation-wide Think Tank: Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, coordinated by Howard University and made possible by a generous grant from the US Russia Foundation. The students worked very hard on developing their collaborative research projects and will be presenting them on Friday, November 6 at the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies Annual Conference, which is meeting virtually this year.

This will be the first time that undergraduate students will present at this conference, the largest professional convention in the field! The Department of Polish, Russian, and Lithuanian Studies would like to congratulate Kenneta Cyracus, Elly Haljiti, Alondra Obispo, Sean Loach, Elizabeth Jones, Damian Cabrera, Freya Regan, Nathan Cerero, and Nathan La Mantia on this spectacular achievement.

The list of our students’ topics includes: Black Russians and Race in the Soviet Union; Representation of Different Ethnic Groups in Russian Film; Reordering of Body Politic: Toyen, Transgender Resistance, and Visual Culture in East-Central Europe; The Stigmatization of HIV/AIDS in Russia; State and Peasant Responses to the Russian Famine of 1921-1922; Two Wars and an Identity: A Brief History of Yugoslavia in the 20th Century.
