Recent Italian event brings musicians, scholars to campus
The Italian program recently hosted an event entitled “From Book to Sound: Italian Singer-Songwriters and their Literary Heritage” that was both a lecture by Professor Francesco Ciabattoni of Georgetown University and a live performance by the i-Talians. The i-Talians are a Washington-based band that formed in 2011 and has since performed Italian pop, rock and folk music, mostly in the DC area: Gianpiero Antonazzo (guitar), Francesco Ciabattoni (keyboard & guitar) and Gerardo Spatuzzi (bass & voice). This event allowed for a discussion and illustration of the question: What are the intertextual dynamics between songwriting and literature?
The event was sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute at Chicago, De Paul University, and the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at UIC.
