Languages Taught

The Department offers 4-semester language sequences in three languages: Lithuanian, Polish, and Russian. Any of these three languages may be used to satisfy LAS's Foreign Language Requirement.

Please note: Students who intend to enroll in language courses and who have previous knowledge of the target language (as heritage speakers or from formal study) must take a placement test to determine proficiency level. (A heritage speaker is someone who was exposed to Lithuanian, Polish or Russian at home, but was educated primarily in English.)

  • To schedule a placement test for Polish or Russian, contact the Office of Testing Services at (312) 996-0919.
