Special entrance requirements
Applicants from countries where the primary language is not English and those who are not native speakers of English must submit a TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE score.
- The minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL is 600. The minimum score on the TOEFL iBT is 95 with the following minimum sub-scores: Reading 24, Speaking 24, Listening 24, and Writing 22.
- The minimum score on the IELTS is 7.0, with sub-scores of 6.5 in all skills.
- The minimum score on the PTE is 64, with the following minimum sub-scores: Reading 66, Speaking 66, Listening 66, and Writing 64.
- Applicants with a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. university are exempt from this requirement.
Special application procedures
Instead of the personal statement mentioned on the Application Procedures section, all international students must submit a four- to five-page summary of their educational experiences, emphasizing work in English and other literatures and languages and concluding with a statement of reasons for wanting to do graduate work in the United States.
