Requirements for the Minor

To declare the minor, students must demonstrate basic proficiency in Chinese through coursework or a placement test.  Those who are using coursework for entry into the minor must have earned a grade of B or above in CHIN 103 or CHIN 111 in order to declare the minor.  Students who place into CHIN 104 may also declare the minor. Students who want to minor in Chinese must complete 16 semester hours as follows:

  • HIST 109/ASST 109—East Asian Civilization: Ancient China (3)
  • HIST 271/ASST 271—Late Imperial China: 1500 to 1911 (3)
  • HIST 272/ASST 272—China Since 1911 (3)
One additional course with a focus on China and/or Chinese language and culture chosen in consultation with an advisor. 3
