opt out details
To receive a credit of refundable fees contact the University Bursar during the refund period
- Transportation Fees: Students who have opted out of the transportation fee can expect to see the credit before September 28th.
- If the transportation fee reversal has not occurred by this date, please contact the ID Center at idcenter@uic.edu.
- Student-to-Student & Sustainability Fees: To opt out of these two fees:
- Check the scheduled request period
- Please email bursarhelp@uillinois.edu to request a waiver form to receive a refund of these two fees. It must be completed and returned back to University Bursar via email between the dates of August 24 to September 12. In the subject line, please enter “UIC Fee Waiver Request”.
- Health Insurance Fee and Public Transportation Fee for International Students (Exception for Fall 2020 ONLY if TAing from abroad)

- Campus Care/ Health Insurance Fee: Students with comparable health insurance coverage, for example through a legal guardian or an employer, can waive out of the program by submitting the online Waiver Form before the Enrollment Period Deadline Date. This will waive their “Health Insurance Fee”. The “Health Service Fee” cannot be waived.
- Check the exact deadline in the catalog. (approx. September 12 for Fall, February 7 for Spring)
- Transportation Fees: Students who have opted out of the transportation fee can expect to see the credit before September 28th.

New domestic and international TAs
- To be eligible to begin working and to complete the I9 form, you must arrive in Chicago and complete departmental HR check-in no later than:
- August 10 (Fall)
- SPECIAL for SPRING 2021– For New and Continuing International TAs who are planning to apply for an F1 visa and come to Chicago in Spring 2021, you will need to arrive in Chicago no later than December 16, 2020 to complete a 2 week quarantine.

New international TAs
- Before booking your flight, check with the Office of International Services (OIS) (ois@uic.edu) on the earliest date you may enter the US. There are arrival restrictions based on the date of your visa. International students can enter the US 30 days prior to the start date listed on their I-20.
- Check in with OIS as soon as you arrive and no later than:
- August 16 (Fall)
- January 1 (Spring)
- After arrival, apply for Social Security Number (SSN)
- Complete the “Foreign National Tax Status Appointment.” Set up your appointment online.
- This must be done ASAP or else taxes will be withheld at the highest rate.

Dates & Deadlines
- For Fall TA/RA/GA appointments, offer letters will be sent to student 45 days prior to start of Fall semester (approx. July 1).
- Students must sign and return signed offer letters to Alexandria Smith (amith04@uic.edu) by July 10.
- For Spring TA/RA/GA appointments, offer letters will be sent to student 45 days prior to start of Spring semester (approx. November 15).
- Students must sign and return signed offer letters to Alexandria Smith (amith04@uic.edu) by November 27.
- For Fall TA/RA/GA appointments, offer letters will be sent to student 45 days prior to start of Fall semester (approx. July 1).

orientation details
New International TAs
- International Student Orientation (through OIS)
All New TAs (Domestic and International)
- Mandatory Department Orientation. Held every August during the week before classes begin. Orientation lasts an entire week from 9am-5pm.
- Schedule will be sent by your department BLP Directors/ Coordinators
- University Orientation (not mandatory)

refund details
- Students who officially withdraw from the University by the second Friday of classes (first Friday for an 8 week class) will receive a full refund of tuition and fees. View the refund schedule.
- After the online drop and add period, students who officially withdraw from the University (by dropping all classes) may receive a pro-rata refund based upon the official date of withdrawal. View the refund schedule.
- Assessed tuition, the service, and general fees are refunded on a pro-rata basis less $50 in a Campus Care Student Health Insurance Withdrawal Fee.

resignation details
To resign from your assistantship, submit a signed resignation letter stating your last day of employment to Alexandria Smith (asmith04@uic.edu) and your Department Head.

TA-ship details
TAs will receive teaching assignments:
- Beginning August for Fall semester
- Mid-December for Spring semester
They will be sent by the respective BLP Director/Coordinator.

waiver details
Note: Tuition waivers take a while to be processed in the system. So, until your tuition waiver is processed, it is possible that your account will show that you have to pay the entire tuition amount. Your account balances should be correctly updated by 9/24 (for Fall term) and 2/24 (Spring term). We request your patience during this time. You may wait to pay your bill until after your balances have been correctly updated.
- If you would like to confirm if all of your waiver requirements have been completed to have your tuition and fee waivers applied: please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships at money@uic.edu or 312-996-3126 option 3. The Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships is responsible for entering the tuition and fee waivers to the student accounts.
- If you have not received an email confirming if your tuition and fee waiver has been approved: please contact the Student Insurance Office at 312-996-4915 or cchealth@uic.edu.
- If you have received an email stating your tuition waiver has been approved, the Student Insurance Office typically applies the credit to the account within 7-10 business days.
