Students in French 104 Engaged in a Discussion

Bienvenue !

Our warm and inclusive introductory French language classes at UIC are designed to give you personalized attention and feedback as you work towards your goals.

If you have taken French before (junior high, high school, college), or have lived in a French-speaking area, or with French-speaking family:
Take the UIC French Placement Test. Your results will place you in 101, 102, 103, 104, or could fulfill the LAS Foreign Language Requirement if you have a strong background in French.

If you’re completely new to French:
Register for French 101!

After French 104, you can continue to be a French Peer Tutor, and take 200-level classes towards a French minor or major, or Teaching of French major.

In the first four semesters of French at UIC, you’ll explore France and the 29 other countries in the French-speaking world, from Haïti to Cameroon, from Belgium to Québec, Canada. You’ll practice speaking, reading, writing, and understanding others speaking French.
