Location

This talk presents outcomes and challenges from two collaborative, NSF-funded projects on documenting and annotating understudied languages, with a focus on Cuzco Quechua. Prof. Liliana Sánchez highlights participatory research with community collaborators, advances in word segmentation and Universal Dependencies annotation, and the complexities of analyzing evidentiality and focus in morphologically rich languages. The talk emphasizes methodological innovation, cross-linguistic comparison with Shipibo, and the creation of open-access resources that bridge language documentation, linguistic theory, and NLP while remaining grounded in community needs.
